On Monday, March 9, the RINGEN research center hosted an important visitor. Monika Ladmanová, Head of the European Commission Representation in the Czech Republic, showed keen interest in the mission of the RINGEN research center and current development related to the implementation of the SYNERGYS strategic project. After a lecture lasting more than an hour focused on geothermal energy and its planned use in Litoměřice, she visited the drilling site for a shallow underground heat storage facility and a drilling rig digging a 200-meter-deep hydrogeological borehole.
"Geothermal energy is a source of the future that can significantly contribute to the energy mix in the Czech Republic. It can provide 100% renewable energy for heating cities. In my opinion, the energy future of our country is being written in Litoměřice," replied Monika Ladmanová when asked about her opinion on geothermal energy.
The SYNERGYS project is co-financed by the European Union, which is investing considerable resources in reducing carbon emissions. Renewable sources therefore play an important role here. The amount of subsidies for research and implementation of geothermal energy has increased significantly in recent years, and it is therefore certain that the share of geothermal energy in Europe will grow.
"The combination of green and digital transformation has been accelerated by the war conflicts of recent years. The use of fossil fuels is not only harmful to the planet, but is also becoming very dangerous from a geopolitical point of view," warns Monika Ladmanová.
"We are pleased that the SYNERGYS research project is at the forefront of Europe-wide decarbonization efforts and can inspire other cities and institutions to use geothermal energy," said Radek Löwy, mayor of Litoměřice, at the end of the visit to the research center.
